The term “viral generation” refers to an age group that experiences a double vital circumstance: on the one hand, exposure to the coronavirus as a generational brand; on the other hand, the speed of the transmission of information over the internet. The article analyzes the impact of confinement caused by Covid-19 among adolescents, based on a case study carried out in Catalonia, Spain. After exploring the role of confinement in the rites of passage from childhood to adulthood of different cultures, the experience of confinement is analyzed from the transformations of four spaces of adolescent life: the room, the educational space, the leisure spaces and the cyberspace. In the epilogue, the process of deconfinement is exposed and how it is affecting young people, in the form of ‘youthphobic’ discourses that blame them for outbreaks, but also based on constructive experiences of innovation and social participation.
