This article aims to characterize the city as a space for memory production; relates time, memory and nostalgia; and identifies digital objects on Instagram as memory mediators, analyzing them during the COVID-19 pandemic. It uses as a methodology a bibliographic research combined with qualitative and quantitative analysis, both imagery and text, of publications made on the Instagram platform, from March to July 2020, and filtered by the hashtag #tbtrj. The guiding authors are Maurice Halbwachs, Pierre Nora, Milton Santos, Andreas Huyssen, Massimo Canevacci, Arjun Appadurai and José Van Dijck. It concludes that in the pandemic, publications with #tbtrj represents the memory places of Rio de Janeiro city in a nostalgic way, from an affective memory point of view, projecting an imagined future after the pandemic.
