Abstract

This article aims to explore the current configurations of the work of teachers of basic education in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, focusing on those who teach the discipline of Sociology in high school of public-state schools of city of Santa Maria. To do this, we used both the application
of questionnaires and interviews. We exercise the debate on the forms of rationalization in the world of work and their particularities in the school environment. We focus on the concept of intensification
and the most contemporary changes that occurred in the labor universe and its external impacts. We found that the inadequacy between initial formation and the discipline of Sociology as well as structural
elements significantly impact the craftsman character and the professional identities of teachers.
