Abstract

This article demonstrates how the use of music in English language teaching through Critical Literacy principles can be a tool for promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically the 4, 5, and 10. To this end, the concepts of being critical and criticality (Monte Mór, 2015; Rocha, 2013; Janks, 2018) are discussed, and the concept of Critical Literacy (CL) (Jordão, 2016) is reflected upon, and activities using music in English language teaching from the perspective of LC are proposed. The findings show that integrating music with language teaching is an effective alternative for promoting the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as a potential approach for advancing an agenda of gender equality, quality education, and reducing inequalities.
