Love as meaning: towards a sociology of individualization - outline of an analysis of affective relationships in contemporaneity

An analytical proposal of erotic love from sociology is presented, relating it to ways and discourses of self-production in current times. This proposal integrates my present research that aims to analyze, in its cultural and symbolic dimension, the processes of contemporary individualization. Establishing a connection with previous works, love emerges as an important element of self-recognition and validation, being analyzed as a specific way to assign meaning, both to experiences and gestures; relationships and feelings, culminating in a reiterative sense of the individuality of lovers. It is understood that there is a reciprocal relationship between individualistic culture and contemporary loving ideals which extrapolates the subjectivism associated with these themes, thus constituting a relevant object of sociological research.
