Abstract

The historiographical production characterized by the representativeness and the leading role of African and Afro-Brazilian peoples is a recent reality in national historiography, especially in textbooks aimed at Basic Education. The objective of this article is to present a panel on how History Teaching can play a role in the preservation and defense of the right to memory and the full exercise of identity, elements necessary for the strengthening of citizenship in a country that intends to be democratic and inclusive.
