Abstract

This article seeks to analyze the potential of anti-terrorism legislations to enable abuses and violation of basic civil rights Considering this, two laws that seek to regulate the fight against terrorism in their respective states will be analyzed here: the Patriot Act, of the United States; and Law 13.260, of Brazil. Comparing similarities and diferences between the two cases, the work will seek to bring some reflections on the complexity of definition of terrorism, as well as the setbacks brought to civil liberties.
