ANGUISH REPRESENTATIONS IN POST-PUNK SONGS

Considered as a word of multifaceted conception, the term “Angst” is often imbued with moral components, especially through the Christian religion, as suggested by Kierkegaard in 1844. Studies of the psyche and human emotions have removed it from the Manichean axis, considering it sometimes as a symptom related to libido, with Sigmund Freud (1926), someitmes acting like a social role, according Erich Fromm (1956), sometimes linked to the realm of the imagi nary, in conformity to Jacques Lacan (1963). In turn, Johan Huizinga (1944), Georges Bataille (1957), and Roger Caillois (1958) transposed the concept into the universe of culture, also as a sign of competition. Considering the meanings of “Angústia” may be, numerous lyrical compositions produced on 1980s suggest a persistent convergence between affect and symptom in the characterization of the desiring persona.
