Abstract

This article aims to identify the identity markers of the machamba peoples present in the school’s PPP-2017 and in the PCES-2022 of the Ministry of Education and Human Development of the Republic of Mozambique, in order to reflect on the possibilities of a machamba-based education. In this process, the study seeks to collectively value the experiences, beliefs, and lived realities of the communities in order to contribute to the development of a school curriculum that is more committed and grounded in an intercultural perspective. It is considered that the perspectives of Freire (1987) on the need for dialogue, as well as the reflections of Walsh (2009) and Candau (2008), who discuss interculturality, can contribute to the collective construction of curricular contents, so that voices historically silenced may return and occupy their rightful space. The district of Chicualacuala has only one secondary school, where students from different machamba communities are present, bringing with them knowledge that can contribute to overcoming barriers found in several areas of knowledge, especially in the field of Science in the first cycle. During the analysis of PPP-2017 and PCES-2022, the absence of effective participation of machamba communities in the teaching and learning process was observed. However, the presence of small identity markers identified in the documents opens a possibility for reflecting on a machamba-based education.
