Abstract

In this study, we look at the reader and the construction of meanings, through the lens of the theory of Reception Aesthetics, proposed by Jauss (1994), in order to understand the intersection of the horizons of expectations of the work with those of the reader, at the moment of reading, through the chronicle A carta, by Mia Couto ([1991]2012). In particular, we seek to discuss, from a theoretical-methodological perspective, how working with literary reading, which focuses on the subject of reception, enables a different methodological approach to teaching literature. In this way, we hope to contribute to the analysis of literary texts by describing the ways in which meanings are constructed, focusing on the role of the reader.
