Abstract

This article aimed to analyze the emergence of new sociability and festivities in the village of Amarração on the coast of Piauí at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century, considering the modernization of this space. Bibliographical research was used to understand the local situation and the concepts of modernity, sociability and celebration and documentary research, using as sources Piauí newspapers and memory books produced at the time or that deal with this time frame. The modification of the village of Amarração due to the presence of steam vessels and the railway, that is, the insertion of the modern, enabled the appearance of different types of festivities, as well as the transformation of existing sociability, marking everyday life and sensibilities of people.
