“The Future Is Already Happening”
Digital Colonialism and Sacrifice Zones
Abstract
This article discusses the ethical and aesthetic challenges of digital colonialism and its impact on the Global South. Through theoretical analysis, it connects historical and digital colonialism along axiological, epistemological, and ontological axes, understanding the phenomenon as an expression of imperialism in the digitalization phase of capitalism. It argues that digital colonialism updates structures of domination through data extraction, neo-extractivism, and technological dependence, converting bodies and territories into sacrifice zones. Finally, it advocates for the construction of pathways committed to processes of decolonization of technologies and libertarian collective actions aimed at actively contesting the future.
