Abstract

This article, which introduces the thematic dossier “Imperialism, Information, Communication, and Culture in the Age of Digitalization,” argues that digitalization reconfigures, rather than replaces, the foundations of imperialism. To develop this argument, it briefly revisits the historical emergence of imperialism, examines the role of digital platforms in reshaping media imperialism, and synthesizes different theoretical approaches to the relationship between imperialism and digital technologies, including debates on data colonialism and digital colonialism.
