Abstract

The audiovisual industry is one of the few sectors that still have strong union activity in the USA. Through documentary analysis and literature review, the article explores the union movement in Hollywood, highlighting the 2023 writers' strike. Historically, the emergence of new exhibition and distribution technologies leads to artist strikes seeking compensatory adjustments. In the most recent strike, streaming platforms and artificial intelligence were the main points of debate. The analysis of the events and their outcomes provides an understanding of the gig economy model, which is expanding in various sectors globally.
