This article proposes to analyze the discursive nature of knowledge organization systems and presents excerpts from ongoing research that aims to articulate the theme of sexual and gender diversity as a domain of knowledge. In this sense, the research adopts as its theoretical framework critical perspectives on knowledge organization, contributions from gender and sexuality studies, and the theoretical and methodological potential of Domain Analysis for the construction of representation schemes. The concepts of domain and discursive community are mobilized to characterize the theme of sexual and gender diversity. The results indicate that the understanding of “domain” combined with the critical use of language provides the concepts, tools, and categories necessary to work on sociodiscursive issues involving the complexity of the topic under investigation.
