Abstract

The article seeks to analyze the mechanisms of inclusion of the gender approach in the Trilateral South-South cooperation project +Algodão, signed in 2013 under the Brazil-FAO International Cooperation Program. Although gender mainstreaming appears among the strategies for strengthening institutional capacities and guaranteeing the sustainability of cotton production, FAO has registered aspects that imply unequal participation between men and women in this value chain. In addition, in recent years, Brazil has shown a reduction in resources allocated to public policies for women in family farming, as well as difficulties in advancing the agenda to promote gender equality. Thus, based on the theoretical perspective that considers actors and processes in international development, the work observed trends, on the part of FAO, for the systematization of practices and generation of evidence in the scope of the project as a mechanism for implementing SDG 5. of the project, the diffusion of development standards to improve productivity in family agriculture and the absence of specific structures that deal with gender equality stand out.
