Abstract

We compared two institutions of the National University of La Plata in charge of the administration of the sports field and the regulation of the bodies of the students: the Department of Physical Culture (1929-1946) and the General Directorate of Physical Education (1947 -1959). For the first case, various sources are taken, while for the second we focus on an extensive inaugural document. The aim is to understand and compare the legitimating discourses of both proposals, addressing the following categories: the way of understanding sport, its way of conducting classes in terms of sex-gender, and its links with discourses such as medical, psychological, and pedagogical. They are understood in relation to the local and national context, in political, economic, cultural terms, and in relation to Physical Education.
