Abstract

This is a literature review with the aim of highlighting the importance of primary health care in the face of the outbreak of COVID-19. For this, a survey was carried out in the main databases, Scielo, Lilacs, Medline, BIREME, CINEHAL and PUBMED, in addition to official documents from the Ministry of Health. Then the studies were evaluated for inclusion or exclusion from the research and later the text was produced. Among those found, 10 publications were chosen. They presented the challenges faced by primary care and the strategies used, including telemedicine, changing the flow of health units following the demands of global and national organizations, in addition to facing problems that already exist in society that add up to COVID- 19. The study demonstrated that the advent of the pandemic began to demand a more decisive role from primary care professionals, in addition to the need to effectively exercise their skills. It should be noted, however, that there is still a need to appraise those involved, and care for them.
