Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present the main ideas of the works A embalagem do sistema, by Maria Arminda Arruda, and Publicidad, economía y comunicación massiva, by Patricia Arriaga, especially those that contribute to reflecting on the relationship between investments in advertising and the structural crisis of capitalism. The aim is to answer the following question: if capitalism is facing a structural crisis, why is advertising immune to it? The hypothesis is that, by increasing the participation of unproductive labor in the realization of value, advertising contributes to worsening the crisis.
