Abstract

With his pen suspended, Graciliano Ramos explores the winding and provocative possibilities of expressing his feelings to Heloísa Medeiros, who would become his second wife and the recipient of love letters that reflect what we, drawing from Deleuze and Guattari, understand as elements of a deterritorialized affect. The record of these unsettled emotions appears In Graciliano’s Intimate letters to Heloísa, revealing, among other aspects, the author’s manipulation of the literary machine as an empirical exercise In a complex web of ambivalent emotions, unreachable desires, and escapes. In Kafka: Toward a Minor Literature (2003), the letter and love break the territorializing boundaries of genre and sentiment, confronting ideas of perfection and the concealment of flaws.
