Abstract

Based on a concern with the need and importance of not presenting the Crusades from a single past, this article aims to analyze the context of the First Crusade (1097) through Ibn al-Qalanisi's The Damascus Chronicle, precisely with the aim of privileging an Eastern view of the First Crusade, thus distancing itself further from traditional Western views of this conflict. For this analysis, we located the study around cultural history, fitting al-Qalanisi's document as a representation that involves a set of memories that give meaning to the event itself. In addition, the globalizing methodology makes it possible to perceive the connections and interactions between medieval East and West.
