Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission process includes the full names of the authors, their ORCID numbers, degrees, and institutions, and the e-mail address of the author(s) indicated for correspondence
  • The text is original, unpublished, and is not being evaluated for publication in another journal
  • The text has a title, abstract, and keywords in Portuguese, English, and Spanish
  • Authorship identification has been removed from the file and any part of the text and references (replace author name with "Author")
  • The submission file is in Word format, with doc, docx or odt extension
  • The submitted work is compatible with the focus and scope of Ambivalências, and follows all the formatting and structure standards outlined in the Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines

Ambivalências accepts unpublished papers, research reports, essays, translations, reviews, and interviews in the field of anthropology or its interfaces with other areas of knowledge. Please follow the guidelines below to submit your text for blind peer review:

  • Submissions must be made exclusively through the Electronic Journal Publishing System (SEER). If you have not yet registered, you can do so at the following address: https://periodicos.ufs.br/Ambivalencias/about/submissions
  • Authors, co-authors, and translators must provide their ORCID number, which can be obtained free of charge from https://orcid.org/register
  • Before submitting your text, insert your ORCID and mini-biography in the profile information, in the "Public" tab
  • Do not include any identification of authorship in the file or text. This information will be entered in the fields provided in the submission system
  • The authors should preferably hold a PhD. In the case of co-authorship, at least one of the authors holds a PhD
  • The authors or translators are entirely responsible for correcting spelling, text, and language
  • The works reviewed must have been originally published within the last two years
  • Submit the text in the corresponding session type

Sessions for submission

  • Papers, research reports or essays should be submitted in the ARTIGO section
  • Translations should be submitted in the TRADUÇÃO section
  • Reviews should be submitted in the RESENHA section
  • Interviews should be submitted in the ENTREVISTA section
  • Papers for a DOSSIER must be submitted in the session corresponding to that dossier
  • Translations, reviews and interviews should be submitted to the corresponding section (i.e., TRADUÇÃO, RESENHA or ENTREVISTA) even when intended for a dossier

Formatting

  • A4 page format
  • 15 to 25 numbered pages
  • Reviews: 4 to 8 numbered pages
  • Margins should be set to 3cm on the left and top, and 2cm on the right and bottom
  • Title and subtitle in bold
  • Do not use capital letters in the entire title
  • Times New Roman font, size 12
  • Direct quotations of more than three lines and footnotes: size 10
  • Alignment: body text and quotations of more than three lines, justified alignment; references and footnotes, left alignment
  • In between lines: Body of the text, 1.5 spacing; abstracts, quotations of more than three lines, footnotes, and references should be single-spaced. Skip one line between each entry in the references
  • Indentation: It is recommended to use a 1cm indentation at the beginning of each paragraph and no indentation for titles, subtitles, and references. Direct quotations of more than three lines should be indented by 4cm and not indented at the beginning of the paragraph
  • Do not use quotation marks in direct quotations longer than three lines
  • Only use footnotes when necessary. Do not use endnotes
  • Images must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi

Text structure

  • Title, abstract, and keywords in Portuguese, English, and Spanish
  • If it is a translation, title, abstract, and keywords in Portuguese, in the original language, and English or Spanish
  • Abstracts should be between 100 and 250 words. It should not include any quotations
  • In reviews, abstracts are not necessary
  • Keywords: three to four, separated by a period
  • Introduction (do not number)
  • Numbered parts and subparts of the article
  • Conclusion or Final considerations (do not number)
  • Bibliographical references (do not number)
  • Tables, photos, illustrations and maps must be numbered and included in the body of text
  • Reviews must contain "Review of" and the reference of the reviewed work, in the three languages
  • Use footnotes only when strictly necessary. Citations should appear in the body of the text.

Indirect quotation: (Last Name, 2009) or Last Name (2009).

Direct quotation: (Last Name, 2009, p. 29) or Last Name (2009, p. 29).
