In this article, through the life history method, I analyze the trajectory of a student in two fraternity houses in Ouro Preto (MG). Specifically, I investigate the emotional discourses present in his narrative and how they intertwine with the socio-affective relationships of these spaces, with a special focus on the period called “batalha”, a sort of common rite of passage in this social context. In the analyzed accounts, my interlocutor evokes feelings such as humiliation, fear, shame, happiness, and friendship, which were addressed in this text in light of the contextualist perspective of the Anthropology of Emotions, as well as the studies of authors who engage with this theoretical-methodological approach. In this way, I seek to underline how such emotions not only evidence but also participate in the social dynamics marked by hierarchies and power relations, while indicating how the student deals with his sexuality and with the other residents of the fraternity houses.
